Vintage 2026 considerations

After a long and rainy winter, water reserves have been fully replenished. Snow remained on Mount Etna until May, delaying budbreak and slowing the early stages of vine growth.

From June onwards, temperatures began to rise while rainfall became increasingly scarce. At the same time, humidity increased and the hot African winds we call Afa started to affect the vineyards, creating ideal conditions for heat stress and fungal pressure.

A severe weather system also brought hail to several vineyards on Mount Etna before véraison. Fortunately, our vineyards were only slightly affected. In the Randazzo area, however, the Contrada Savina suffered minor damage, while Contrada Donnabianca was hit much more severely. As a precaution, we carried out an additional copper treatment to protect the vines.

To reduce the impact of summer heat, we are also experimenting with kaolin, a natural mineral clay that forms a protective white film on the leaves. By reflecting part of the solar radiation, kaolin helps keep leaf temperatures lower, reducing water stress and allowing the stomata to continue functioning efficiently.

Our goal is to support a slow and balanced ripening, preserving freshness, aromatic complexity and natural acidity, while helping to maintain lower potential alcohol levels and allowing each vineyard to express the unique identity of its volcanic terroir.
